Friends of The Planet!
La Belle & La Boeuf is proud to launch its “Plastic Free and Friends of The Planet” campaign, an initiative that aims to ban all single-use plastic items from our thirteen restaurants.
Why and how
More than 8 million tons of plastics are thrown into the ocean each year – that is like dumping a garbage truck filled with plastics into the ocean every minute.
What’s more, the majority of this waste is made up of disposable plastics, such as plastic bags, bottles, utensils, straws and more, that we use (and throw!) every day. The problem is, fish, turtles, dolphins, whales and thousands of other marine wildlife can be caught in this garbage or try to eat it and suffer fatal consequences.
No plastic on the menu!
Plastic does not decompose easily. In fact, some plastics can remain in the environment for 50, 100, 200 or 1000 years. Meanwhile, they break down into smaller and smaller pieces, but they do not disappear completely.
We are now seeing that those tiny pieces of plastic (microplastic) can spread throughout the food chain because of animals ingesting them, all that to end up… in our plate.
In the face of these alarming fact, our duty to eliminate plastic from our restaurants became clear.
Real actions for real results
A year ago we banned all the plastic straws from our restaurants. Now, it’s bags, utensils, take-out boxes, you name it, we are getting rid of it!
Concretely, this initiative will prevent more than 52,000 single-use plastic items from ending up in our lakes, rivers and oceans, and reduce our waste production by 3,655 kilograms, or 8,060 pounds.
Like climate change, plastic pollution is a global problem that requires action at all levels. We strongly believe that every company has a responsibility to counter this scourge and we hope that this initiative will be the beginning of our contribution to the world of tomorrow.
Thank you for supporting us in our fight to create a plastic-free world for all.
